War Memorial St. Peters Church Osmotherley

A plaque commemorating those killed in the First World War.

In Loving Memory of our Boys who fell in the GREAT WAR, 1914-1918. Unveiled by Col. Deakin, Yorks. Regt., Easterday, 1920. Dedicated by the Lord Bishop of Beverley, April 18th, 1922. Erected by Private Subscriptions collected by the Rev. A.A. Williams, M.A., Vicar of this Parish for 25 years.

A second plaque commemorates Arthur Maurice Kirby, who was killed in action at Inverness Copse in Flanders. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial, Belgium.

To the glory of God, and in loving memory of Arthur Maurice Kirby, Lieut. 5th. Durham Light Infantry, attached machine gun corps. of Thimbleby Grange in this parish, who was killed in action at Inverness Copse in Flanders Sept. 25th. 1917. Aged 19 years. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

There are also Rolls of Honour for the men of Osmotherley who were killed in the two World Wars.
