War Memorial Belcrum

This war memorial is located at Pastoor Pottersplein in Breda. It commemorates the victims of the Belcrum neighborhood in Breda. Many of these victims were children, the youngest was only 1 year old.

Eight victims were killed on 17 May 1940 during the 'Flight of Breda', during a bombing in Sint-Niklaas in Belgium.
Fifteen Jewish victims were killed in Auschwitz or Sobibor.

On the memorial is the following text:
GODS LIEFDE IS
ALTIJD BIJ ONS
IN GOEDE
EN KWADE DAGEN

Translated in English is this:
GODS LOVE IS
ALWAYS AT OUR SIDE
IN GOOD
AND BAD DAYS

Next to the monument is a plaque on a pedestal with the names of the (known) 46 victims.

The monument was placed in 1952 on the corner of Pastoor Pottersplein. In 1966 the monument was moved to the entrance of the Christ Koningskerk, after which it was restored in 2003 and moved back to its original location on Pastoor Pottersplein.
