Grave Shigejiro Murakami

Shigejiro Murakami was the pilot of a Mitsubishi A6M2 Model 21 Zero that was ditched into sea on 11 September 1942. He befriended local islanders and managed to convince them to help him reach Japanese troops. He was shot and killed on Kitava Island during a brief skirmish with Australian troops. The locals buried him on this island. His grave can still be found here.
