This Japanese transport ship was damaged by a B-17 bomber on 22 July 1942, causing it to burn and settle atop a coral reef. The wreck was numerous times attacked by Allied aircraft and used as target practice when the Allies recaptured Gona. Three airplanes crashed or were ditched into sea during these practices.
The wreck has submerged below the waterline.
