Memorial Major General Andrew Gilbert Wauchope

This memorial, an obelisk erected by the British Army at Matjiesfontein, commemorates Major General Andrew Gilbert Wauchope CB CMG LLD, who gave his life on 11 December 1899 at Magersfontein in the South-African War (2nd Boer War). He is buried in the cemetery at the foot of the hill where the memorial is located.
