Commonwealth War Grave Killiskey Church of Ireland Churchyard

Killiskey Church of Ireland Churchyard contains one Commonwealth war grave from the First World War, of Roger Casement.

Eldest son of Julius Casement of Cronroe House near Ashford, Co. Wicklow, and his wife Maria Clarke née Bernard. Born at Portglenone House near Ballymena, Co. Antrim, 24 Feb. 1864; died of trench fever at Cronroe 21 Dec. 1917 and was buried on the 24th.
Educated at the Royal School, Armagh; cadet at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, 24 Feb. 1882. Lt Royal Artillery 15 Feb. 1884; Royal Field Artillery 1890; Royal Garrison Artillery 1892. Captain 1 Mar. 1893; Major 14 Feb. 1900; served in South Africa, Mar. - Sep. 1902; retired 1904 to take over the estate after his father's death.
Major in the army reserve; was recalled to military service 5 Sep. 1914; Lt Col. 1916; served at Gallipoli (mentioned in despatches 13 July 1916).
He was married but childless.
