This memorial, at the Fairfield on the Thames National Historic Site, commemorates the destruction of Fairfield on the Thames (Moraviantown) during the Battle of the Thames (also known as the Battle of Moraviantown), which took place on 5 October 1813 during the War of 1812. The village was destroyed by American troops who wrongly accused the inhabitants of sheltering British officers.
