Battery at the Sloterweg

The Battery on Sloterweg (now Rijnlanderweg) from 1906 has been well preserved. It was built in the Geniedijk and is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Because the land in front of the dike could be widely submerged, the battery did not have to be constructed as a strong fortress. Yet the defenses show features of the larger fortresses from the Defense Line. For example, the main building with the crew quarters is connected to the battery room via a covered concrete connecting corridor (posterne). This is not visible from above because everything is covered with a thick layer of earth. The battery compartment is double and mirrored. Two guns could fire along the Geniedijk towards Fort Aalsmeer (eastwards) and two guns towards Fort Hoofddorp (westwards).

Today (january 2022), the battery is rented through GindS to several artists and music studio Joris van Amsterdam.
