Memorial for the Brave of the First World War

In the park, next to the large monument (Monument aux Morts) is a memorial for the brave soldier from the First World War.

The text reads:
Au Poilu de la Grande Guerre.
This literally means: For the furry of the First World War.
In the First World War the meaning of poilu became "courageous".

The right-hand side contains the last verse of the poem "La Prière du soldat" (the prayer of the soldier) by poet Sylvain Royé, who died on 24-5-1916 in Douaumont, Meuse département.

"Other hours will be born, more beautiful and better.
The victory will shine during the last fight.
Lord, let those who know these hours
Think of those who don't come back. "
