Crash Site B-25C Mitchell 41-12478

On 16 May 1942, B-25C Mitchell 41-12478 crashed on (the then virtually abandoned) Aiyura Airfield. The crew survived the crash and were rescued weeks later. While waiting for their rescuers, the crew repaired an abandoned 1925 Spartan biplane and made a successful test flight from the airfield.'

The wreckage was salvaged in he 60's.
