Shaggy Ridge witnessed heavy fighting between the Australian Army and the entrenched Japanese forces from December 1943 to January 1944. The battle resulted in 46 Australian KIA and approx. 500 Japanese KIA.
Shaggy Ridge was named in honor after Captain Robert "Shaggy Bob" Clampett, 2/27th Infantry Battalion, CO. The ridge consists of the following heights:
