Alexishafen Catholic Mission

Alexishafen Catholic Mission was used by the Japanese to store ammunition and was completely destroyed in the Allied bombings. Only the cross survived when the Australian Army liberated the area on 26 April 1944. A hospital of the 2/15th Field Hospital was established here in July 1944.
