War Memorial Elektrostal

The memorial is dedicated to natives of the city of Elektrostal who didn't return from the war. Of the 11,855 people conscripted by Elektrostal military enlistment office for the fronts of the Great Patriotic War 3,527 people didn't return. Of these, 1,469 died in battle, 356 died of wounds, 23 in captivity and 1,679 were missing.

In 1965, it was decided to rebury 18 soldiers who died in hospitals in the city, in a mass grave on Koreshkov street and install an obelisk in that place. Three streets of the city were named after the Heroes of the Soviet Union - V. R. Nikolaev, P. A. Zhulyabin and V. D. Korneev, who died in the time of the war. In total, there are twenty countrymen of Elektrostal who are Heroes of the Soviet Union.

In 1968, a memorial was opened at the mass grave and an eternal flame was lit. On the massive granite slabs today are carved the names of about four thousand perished soldiers. The memorial is situated on the edge of an industrial area nowdays, not far from Elektrostal railway station.
