Memorial Tank Ashford

At the end of the First World War, used tanks were donated to cities as a memorial ("Memorial Tank") as a thank you for their commitment to fundraising for warfare.

This is a Tank, Mark IV. The a so-called female version. It was equipped with 5 Lewis machine guns. The male version had two 57 mm guns and three machine guns.

In many cases these tanks were removed before the Second World War. In this case that did not happen; the tank was stripped of its interior in 1929 and an electricity sub-station was made in the hull. This electricity sub-station served until 1968. This is the only memorial tank on its original location.
