This cross is a replacement for the original memorial which commemorates the victims of the 418th French regiment who fell here during the first gas attack.
During the Second World War, the Germans blew up this monument.
After the war, instead of the original, which represented a French soldier who grabbed his throat with both hands as a result of the gas, while 2 other soldiers were already dead on the ground, this cross of reconciliation was placed here
