TThe monument commemorates HALET Hubert, mayor of Cornesse, who was executed, aged 62, on this spot by the Germans on Aug. 12th, 1914.
The part of the wall against which the mayor was executed has been preserved. It shows two bullet holes. Attached to this piece of wall is the memorial plaque. The school in the background was built in later years at the location of the building that was located here in 1914 and against which the mayor was executed.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this event in 1964, the monument was placed.
