Battery 405 (Battery Robert E. DeMerritt)

Battery 405 (1944-1945) was a reinforced concrete 8 inch coastal gun battery. Battery construction started in early 1943, was completed in early 1944 at an estimated cost of $ 283,850.

It was armed with two 8" Mark VI M3A2 guns mounted on M1 Barbette Carriages (BC).

Known as Battery 405 during the war after the construction number BCN 405. After the war renamed Battery Robert E. DeMerritt.
