On 23 March 1945, a fighter aircraft of the Royal Canadian Air Force – 406th Squadron, type Haviland DH, 98 Mosquito NF-Mk-MM740 HU-G, crashed here after an air battle.

Nearby, 7 planes crashed. Of the total 28 crew members of these 7 aircraft, 4 bombers and 3 reconnaissance aircraft, 27 were killed.

24 of them are buried in the cemeteries in Weerselo, (7) Deurningen (5) and Rossum (12). Two are buried in their homeland America and 1 crew member is buried at the Forest War Cementery in Kleve in Germany. 1 crew member escaped with a parachute jump and survived the war. Every plane crash has its own dramatic story.

The idea is to inform the residents and passers-by what a drama has taken place in these places and that they realize that we have been living in peace for 75 years.
