Belgian War Graves Florenville

The old cemetery in Florenville contains the graves of military and civilian victims of the First and Second World Wars.

These are the graves of, among others:
CUVELIER Eugene, Major General of the Engineers, Deputy to the Military Governor of the Fortified Defense Line of Antwerp at the beginning of the war. Followed the army to the Yser and died at work in Paris on November 23, 1915."

MICHOTTE Robert, fallen on the field of honor in Watervliet on May 24, 1940.
Second Lieutenant - Sub-Lieutenant, 4th Cyclist Carabinieri, 1st Bat., 1st Comp.
Killed by debris from the explosion of the Mouse Cave Bridge (Sint-Laureins) over the Leopold Canal. First buried in Watervliet, later reburied in Florenville.

BLAISE Fernand, resistance fighter killed in a battle with the Germans in Banel (Florenville) on June 18, 1944.

JACQUES René : Lieutenant Brigade Piron Company Staff - Chief of the Military Police Detachment
He was a war volunteer in 1914-1918 and in 1940-1944. As head of the MP section, he had a disdain for danger. On October 1, 1944, while returning from a mission in a very dangerous area, he was killed by an enemy sniper. Killed in action at Thorn, (NL) while boldly approaching enemy lines to complete a mission.
