In East Parish Burying Ground is the grave of William Hull (1753-1825). During the War of 1812, he was an American General. At his surrender to the British in Detroit, Michigan, in 1812, he was found guilty by a court-martial of cowardice, neglect of duty, and unofficerlike conduct, and was sentenced to die. President James Madison accepted this decision but remitted Hull's sentence.
