This museum is dedicated to 200 years of prison life in HMP Dartmoor – Princetown Prison. On display are a.o. life-size models of Napoleonic soldiers in colourful period uniforms. There is also attention for the ‘Princetown Massacre’ when the guards fired on rioting Americans captured during the War of 1812, killing nine and wounding over thirty more.
In total, over 1400 French prisoners and 218 Americans died while imprisoned in Dartmoor in what was called the "war prison". They were buried somewhere beyond the prison walls.
