Fort Dearborn

This memorial, a large relief above the entrance of the London Guarantee Building, commemorates Fort Dearborn which was located on this position. The Battle of Fort Dearborn (sometimes called Fort Dearborn Massacre) took place nearby the fort on 15 August 1812, between American troops and Potawatomi Indians. The Native Americans won the battle, after which the fort was evacuated and burned to the ground.
