This memorial at the French-German war cemetery of Maissin commemorates the French Breton regiments who fought in this area during the Battle of Maissin on 22 and 23 August 1914.
In 1932, on the 18th anniversary of the fighting, a 16th century Breton Calvary cross from Le Tréhou (Finistère department) was inaugurated.
At the foot of the cross is the statue of a kneeling woman.
The cross itself shows at the top on one side the crucified Christ, the other side a statue of Mary with baby on the arm.
