In Oakwood Cemetery is the grave of Samuel "Uncle Sam" Wilson. He was a businessman who supplied the United States Army with meat during the War of 1812. He stamped his shipments with a "U.S.", that gained him the moniker of "Uncle Sam", which then became a symbol for the United States. Uncle Sam is now a national personification of the United States and sometimes more specifically of the American government.
