The cemetery of Nieuwerkerke contains Belgian burials of the Second World War. These are the graves of MERTENS Prosper, Adegem 20 May 1940 and ARIJS August, Maldegem 26 May 1940.
There are also the graves of civilian casualties of the Second World War, victims of aerial bombings.
