Memorial Crash B-17 Groenekan

In Groenekan, municipality of De Bilt, there is a monument in memory of the crash of a B17 on May 28, 1944. The monument consists of counterfeit steel profiles of parts of a B17.

May 28, 1944
Between Groenekan and Fort Blauwkapel
makes an American B-17 an emergency landing.
Three crew members are killed,
seven are taken prisoner of war.
Groenekan commemorates their sacrifice.
Their sacrifice for our freedom.
May 28, 2014

James W. Mulder (21) rear gunner
Delmar D. McBeth (21) bomb aimer †
Kenneth M. Joye (19) abdominal gunner
Robert C. Berg (30) flight engineer
Lawrence G. Brown (28) left side sniper
Thomas Roskowick (19) right side sniper †

The B17 was part of the USA 388th Bomb Group, stationed at RAF Knettishall. There is also a memorial.
