Monument erected in 1908 in honour of the Victims of the Batalla del [Monte] Moclín (Batalla de Medina de Rioseco) fought on 14 July 1808. This battle is the first engagement of importance of the 1808 – 1814 War of the Spanish Independence from the napoleonic régime (Peninsular War) – followed by a systematic plundering of the city and the slaughtering of its population by the French army.
