German Military Cemetery Aukstadvaris

The German war cemetery in Aukstadvaris.

About 1.5 kilometers southwest of Aukstadvaris, a small German cemetery from the First World War is hidden in the woods. The site of approximately 22 x 20 meters has a low earth wall as a fence, inside which are 39 graves of German soldiers, marked with small crosses bearing the name of the fallen. Some unknown Russian soldiers are also buried. All were killed in fighting near here in 1915. The graves lie around a large wooden cross in the center of the site.

To find: from the A16 (Prienai-Trakai) just outside Aukstadvaris take the dirt road 4719. From this road it is still 7-800 meters on a farm path.
