Monument in Rotselaar in memory of Werner de BAVAY, Lieutenant of the 1st Grenadier Regiment of the 6th Army Division, wounded by a bullet through the head in Rotselaar on September 12, 1914. As stated on his obituary, he would die the next day: wounded at Molen on September 12, 1914, while defending the bridge of Rotselaar at the head of his boys; died the next day, at Wackerzeele. "
He came from a French-speaking noble family. The memorial stone was erected by his widow and was originally placed closer to the bridge over the Dyle. The stone was moved to its current location during removal.
The body was buried in a family grave in Sint-Joost-ten-Node. He was awarded the title of "Knight of the Order of Leopold" and was awarded the "War Cross" and the "Victory Medal".
