Russian Trenches Dūkštos

In the Neris Regional Park you will encounter several Russian World War I trenches near the village of Dūkštos. The trenches are located along the Karmazinai hiking trail, good for a nice walk of about 7 kilometers. In the sections near the Neris River, the landscape still clearly shows contours of the trenches that wind through the landscape. They are channels without sandbags or some other reinforcements.

There was heavy fighting in this area in August and September 1915 before the Germans broke through and were able to advance to Vilnius in mid-September. The trenches are spread over a large area.
Traces of bomb craters can also be seen in various places.

A bunker is located further from the river, but along the walking route. It is a fairly spacious bunker with 4 rooms and a larger room.
