Back in time: Major David V. Currie

Major David V. Currie (left, pistol in hand) of the South Alberta Regiment accepts the surrender of German troops at St. Lambert-sur-Dives, France, 19 August 1944.

This photograph captures the moment and actions that led to Major Currie being awarded the Victoria Cross. Battle Group Commander Major D.V. Currie oversees the collection of German prisoners. Reporting to him is cavalryman R.J. Lowe of "C" Squadron.

RSM George Mitchell is conversing with the German officer on the right and the soldier on the far right is Gordon Franks (Gord) of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
