Memorial Ivan Peskov Averkievo

The monument for natives of the village Averkievo, who perished during Great Patriotic war and the bust of Hero of Soviet Union Ivan Fyodorovitch Peskov, who was born in that village.

Ivan Peskov was born on February 23, 1922 in a peasant family. After finishing the 5th grade, he worked on a collective farm. He was enlisted in Red army in April of 1942 and was sent to front in August of the same year. He performed his feat when crossing the Dnieper river near the city of Zaporozhye. On November 26, 1943, Ivan Peskov, at the head of a group of signallers, crossed the Dnieper river under enemy fire, laid a cable line and established telephone communication between the vanguard of the advancing troops and the command. In a hand-to-hand fight on the Dnieper bridgehead recaptured from the enemy, Peskov killed six Germans. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1944 for exemplary performance of combat tasks of the command on the front of the fight against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown in this case, red army soldier Ivan Peskov was awarded by the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the order of Lenin and the golden Star medal number 2677.
In 1946, Ivan Peskov was demobilized. He worked as a locksmith in the city of Elektrostal, Moscow region. He died on November 7, 1972.
