Memorial General Albin F. Irzyk Park

In memory of General Irzyk (1917-2018), commander of the 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division who led the two attacks on Chaumont during the Battle of the Bulge.
The park is located in the center of Chaumont.

Since March 2019, there is now also an M1 155 mm gun on the Place Irzik in Chaumont. Operated by 21 men, this gun had a range of 23.7 km, could fire 40 rounds per hour and was towed by a Mack 7 1/3 ton 6x6. A fairly large truck for that time, which was specially designed to pull this 17-ton gun: 11.5 liter six-cylinder petrol engine, with a power of 170 hp.
The M1 155mm was later used in Korea and Vietnam and by many other armies worldwide.
The gun in Chaumont probably comes from the Belgian army, which in 1983 still had 14 pieces.
