From 1938 to 1943 at this address sat the Munich Arisierungsstelle, the agency that dealt with the persecution of Jews in the city. It dealt under the pseudonym Vermögensverwertung München GmbH first with the confiscation of Jewish businesses and later with the expulsion of Jews, initially to "Jewish homes" in Munich and then to the two transit camps also located in the city. From there they were deported to death camps in Eastern Europe. In June 1943, the office was disbanded: only 500 of Munich's 19,000 Jews remained in the city. This number had further declined to 84 by the end of the war.
