Belgian War Graves Merelbeke

The churchyard of Merelbeke contains the graves of civilian victims of the Second World War. It concerns mainly victims of allied bombardments in 1944.

The churchyard also contains the grave of:

- Reverend Mr. Octaaf DE CLERCQ, chaplain at Gent. He was sentenced to death on charges of espionage and executed by the Germans at Gent on 11 August 1916.

- DE SPIEGELEIRE Octaaf, soldier at the 23rd Line Regiment of the Belgian occupation army. He was killed by a bomb attack in Germany in 1923.
There is also the grave of VANDERBEKEN Frederik, died at Crefeld (G) on 30 July 1923.
