In 1932, the town hall in Eeklo was expanded with a belfry.
The belfry was co-founded in memory of the victims of WO I.
Next to the tower there is a three-sided loggia with balcony, in the middle bay, with a memorial plaque of the Canadians' liberation in 1944.
"In nineteen hundred
forty four at fifteen
September, around afternoon,
after four years and hundred
fourteen days of occupation
our city was liberated
of the German yoke, by
the I B Lincoln and
Welland Regiment "
Under the loggia there are memorial plaques in 3 parts.
On the left are the names of the fallen, executed and compulsory workers of 1940-1945.
In the middle are the names of the victims of 1914-1918.
On the right are the names of the political prisoners of 1940-1945.
