This memorial commemorates the participation of the 50th Northumbrian Division in the Battle of Geel in September 1944.
On the 8th of september 1944 soldiers of the 50th Northumbrian Division crossed the Albert Canal towards Geel.
This was the start of the Battle of Geel, six days of intense fighting to leberate Geel and secure a bridgehead.
Here we commemorate the warriors of the 50th Northumbrian Division, who fought and died for our freedom.
