Grave Karel Cogge Veurne

The grave of Karel Cogge is in the cemetery in the Oude Vestingstraat. He was supervisor of the Noordwatering van Veurne and played a very important role in advising and supporting the flooding of the Yzer plain in October 1914, which was the start of the position war that would last four years.
He was personally knighted by King Albert I in November 1914 for his contribution.
This simple man was later regarded, together with skipper Hendrik Geeraert van Nieuwpoort, as the "saviors of the fatherland".
