In Biržai, near the castle, is a Soviet cemetery with soldiers who fell in the area in the summer of 1944. The cemetery is a rectangle with dozens of plaques on 3 sides, each with about 25 names of the fallen. In the middle of the site is a memorial column with a Soviet star and there are several rows with a total of about 60-70 individually marked graves: a rarity in Soviet cemeteries. The site itself is reasonably maintained, the plaques are often less legible anymore.
