Memorial Jules Alfred Pavoye

On September 1, 1914, the platoon of Jagers of Sergeant Gautier at height 31 fell under heavy fire from the Germans.

At one point the infantry flanking the Jagers on both sides withdrew under pressure from the enemy. The Hunters Platoon was left alone, bravely fighting the enemy who threatened it both head-on and on the flanks. Only when the retreat order reached him, Sergeant Gautier allowed his men to withdraw.

It is during this action that Horseman Jules Alfred Pavoye was killed.
Jules Alfred Pavoye was posthumously promoted to Brigadier in 1915. Later he was also awarded the War Cross and the Knight's Medal of the Order of Leopold II with palm.
