Pierre Van Damme was Captain Commander of the 1st Regiment of the Colonial Army.
On October 24, 1917, he was hit by a bullet in the chest during a fight in Saïdi-Mahengé. He died at the age of 30.
This memorial plaque hangs on the wall of the Léopold barracks.
