Restored Jewish Cemetery Unkel

This Jewish cemetery was closed, cleared and the ground designated as a bleaching field in 1941 by order of the Mayor and the higher government. The removed stones were thrown into a quarry. After the Second World War (or so the story goes), at the insistence of the Allies, the tombstones were removed from the quarry and replaced. Not all tombstones could be found.
