Memorial Bombardment Gouda Hospital

In the hall of the former care home the Sint Jozef Paviljoen hangs a plaque commemorating the bombing on November 26, 1944. Because the station of Gouda is a junction of railways, the Allies carried out several bombings on it. The nursing home was nearby and the right side was hit.

During the bombing, the nursing home was furnished like a Kriegslazarett and was inhabited by Germans. Only a part of the nursing staff were still present and were badly affected by the bombing. Seventeen people died.

The text on the plaque reads:
PER ASPERA AD ASTRA (meaning "through difficulties to the stars")
Then the names of the seventeen who died.

At the bottom of the plaque the text:
IN GRATEFUL REMINDER
TO THOSE WHO BY A BOMBARDING ON NOVEMBER 26, 1944 TO THEIR
BLESSING LABOR IN THE ST. JOZEF PAVILION ARE DELETED
