War Memorial Gedinne

On the Grand'Place there is a " Territoire Mémoire " with some commemorative plaques and in the center the large monument that commemorates the victims of the First and Second World War.

On the central part :
"To our dead soldiers"
Below that 5 names with place in date of death.
"To Our Warriors"

Left: five names „1940 - 1945"

Right: Five Names "To Our Executed"

To the left of the large war memorial there is a "Territoire Mémoire" with 2 commemorative plaques.

On the right a gray slate with inscription:
"To the Ardennes hunters
and their gunners
The municipality of Gedinne
6/1/1980"

In addition, a white stone:
"To our prisoners who died for the fatherland"

On the wall to the right of the monument is a plaque commemorating the Secret Army.

General organization of the secret army
Towards the end of 1943, the army of Belgium (became a secret army in June 1944) takes shape on the ground, its organization extends over the entire Belgian territory.
It is divided into five zones:
zone I Hainaut and Namur (left bank of the Meuse);
zone II Antwerp and Limburg;
zone III Flanders;
zone IV center of the country;
zone V, right bank of the Meuse.
The zones are divided into sectors. The latter consist of groups. In total there are five zones, thirty-two sectors and one hundred and two groups or shelters.
Zone V is divided into 5 sectors, of which sector V, in our opinion, is divided into 4 groups:
group A region Ciney Spontin Dinant,
group B region Famenne, Houyet;
group C region Gedinne Beauraing;
group D region Semois Paliseul.
Sector 5 included our region in particular and was bounded to the north by a fictitious line Yvoir Marche-en-Famenne North, to the west by the Meuse to Givet and by the French border to Pussemange, to the south by the French border to Band d 'Alle and east by a line connecting Ban d'Alle, Rochehaut and the Carlsbourg, Paliseul, Tellin, Marche and Famenne course. This sector was commanded by Commander Charles (Count Harold d'Adpremont Lynden).
Group C more or less included the current territory of the municipalities
Beauraing, Welllin, Daverdisse, Libin, part of Tellin and the municipality of Gedinne (with the exception of Houdremont in group D).
Group C mustered a maximum of 250 men and was commanded by Louis Barthélemy.
It consisted of a command section and an equipment sub-section (Colonel Verbois); 3 sections of Gedinne commanded by M. Vincent and 3 sections of Beauraing under
command of J. Questiaux. There were also intelligence, supply, etc. sections.
Each section was divided into subsections.
The latter were still divided into squadrons. "
