War Memorial Battle of Imde

Monument in memory of the soldiers of the 3rd Regiment Hunters on Foot of the Belgian army who fell here on August 24, 1914.

"About 150 Belgian soldiers, lying here, shot at the Germans to prevent them from crossing the Barbierstraat from the park of the castle Goethals in order to attack the Belgian troops approaching Imde from Londerzeel. The Belgian soldiers, however, were came under fire from Belgian soldiers who were on the Rossemhoek and who mistook them for Germans. To make matters worse, they were bombarded again by the guns that were set up in Rossem. Some 65 people were killed and dozens wounded, mainly by our own Belgian fire". Source : Information board.
