This memorial stone is located at the entrance of the military area.
The tree of the five heroes is about five Belgian gunners who died in 1914 at the Berchemse Groenenhoek in an attack by a German shell. They were buried in Berchem. After the war, the "tree of the five heroes" was planted on their graves.
In 1925, the French-language newspaper Le Martin had the tree transplanted to the Schoonselhof.
The tree has disappeared, but the memorial stone is still there.
