Before the Second World War, De Witte Olifant consisted of three separate schools.
The occupier designated two schools as Jewish schools. The Van Alphenschool became Jewish school No. 1, the J.D. Meijerschool became Jewish School No. 2.
Non-Jewish pupils were placed at the Oudeschansschool.
In September 1941 there were 544 students at Jewish school Nos. 1 and 2.
In January 1943, Schools No. 1 and 2 were merged. After the big raid on May 25, they were disbanded. There was hardly anyone left.
