Memorials First World War Graide

Three memorials side by side commemorate the First World War on the site of the old Franco-German cemetery.

On the left is a massive column with text in French and German:
" In memory of
the brave soldiers.
French and German,
killed for their country
on Aug 23-24, 1914
in the Battle of Bièvre "

In the center is a cross with the inscription: "Cold ground, you hide forever who I love".

On the right is a tomb with column on which a white marble slab:
"To my dear son
Jules MAUNY
Born in St. Mathurin (Maine-et-Loire)
France
Killed in the Battle of Bièvre
on Aug 23, 1914
at the age of 26 years.
Buried in this cemetery.
This monument has been erected
in his remembrance "

"Passer-by, please pray for him
and his comrades, died for France "
