Commemoration Plaques Civilian Victims First World War Tintigny

Commemorative plaques next to the monument in the forecourt of the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church.

When the German soldiers, commanded by General Von Der Esch, were unable to advance towards Bellefontaine and Saint-Vincent, they violated the population of the village of Tintigny, which was on the edge of the battlefields of Bellefontaine and Rossignol.
106 houses were set on fire and 59 civilians were murdered.

Next to the war memorial are meter-long signs on the left and right where the murdered civilians have been given a face.
They stand next to each other, in the traditional costume of that time. Some have an object in hand, referring to their profession. Above each head is a name with the age at which they were murdered. A nice tribute to these innocent victims.
