The deadliest V impact in the Netherlands came almost at the very end. In the early Sunday morning of 18 March 1945, a V1 bomb struck the corner of Treubstraat and Kerdijkstraat. The memorial website says: ‘34 houses were destroyed and 80 were badly damaged. Many people are at home on that Sunday morning, 42 are killed and 48 injured.
The Germans dismissed it as a gas explosion. In reality, it was an off-course V1 rocket that had presumably been fired from a launch pad near Delft with the target being Antwerp or London.
